Courtney Barnett releases new single, ‘Nameless, Faceless’ ahead of her forthcoming album, ‘Tell Me How You Really Feel’ on 18th May 2018.
The song kicks in with an intense descending riff and eases out at the verse with Barnett’s distinctive vocal coming in. The lyrics of the verses address an angry character, ‘You sit alone at home in the darkness, With all the pent-up rage that you harness’ … ‘Man you’re kidding yourself if you think, The world revolves around you’.
As far as tone is concerned, Barnett has a seemingly apathetic approach to her vocal delivery. This makes the lyrics come across more blunt than simplistic at the chorus as she sings, ‘I wanna walk through the park in the dark, Women are scared that men will kill them, I hold my keys, Between my fingers’.
In contrast to the sinister imagery in the lyrics, the musical accompaniment is upbeat and punchy. Similarly, the video is a playful animation but with an ominous undercurrent.

Directed and animated by Lucy Dyson.
Album out on Milk! Records, Marathon Artists and Mom+Pop.
