Red Sun Alert is an up and coming post-hardcore band from Cork City, Ireland, that brings you a mixture of just about everything you want from modern heavy music – from harsh vocals to math-rock sounds, they’ve got it all! They’re hitting the stage at The Grand Social this Saturday as part of “BOOM Vol. 2”. MNÁSOME’s Alison caught up with front-woman Julia ahead of their performance.
Hey Julia! Thanks for taking the time to talk to us!
You are described as a “female-fronted outfit that combines harsh vocals with raw guitar riffs and math-rock influences.” Who would you say are some of your biggest influences who helped you define yourselves this way.
There’s so many to pick from! But narrowing it down to three it would definitely be between Fugazi, Guerilla Toss and Conjurer.
You’re set to take the stage at The Grand Social this Saturday October 9th. How pumped are you to get back to live shows?
On a scale of 1 to 10 of how pumped we are, it’s about 11. We’re thrilled to be able to get back on the stage and bring all our newest tracks to the live audience. We can’t wait to see what you think!
Take us through your typical writing process. Where do you typically draw inspiration from?
It usually comes from what we’re listening to at the time. Very often we write a song in the vein of an album we’re enjoying in that given period. Usually an idea will come from one of us and we’ll collectively flesh it out together by adding each of our own ideas democratically.
Who are some Irish artists you are loving at the moment & why?
There’s so many! Cherym have just dropped some new music and we are forever obsessed. Mossy are a new band from Cork – they have just released their debut single and it is beautiful! Of course there’s also Pretty Happy, The Altered Hours and Elaine Malone as our all the favourites.
Do you have any more big plans for 2021 you would like to share with MNÁSOME readers?
We’ll be heading out on another UK tour at the end of November and we may or may not be releasing some new music before the end of the year 😉
