On the first Friday of every month, to coincide with BandCamp Friday, a member of the MNÁSOME Team will share some of their top picks of artists who are currently making waves on the Irish and international music scenes. By doing so, we hope to help introduce their music to some new, adoring fans like yourself! So please, have a listen, give them a follow and support them by buying their music, merch and tickets to their shows.
This month, freelance editor and contributor, Caoimhe shares her top picks…
Pillow Queens
Our favourite 4-piece Dublin indie-rockers, Pillow Queens, released their debut album “In Waiting” in 2020 to critical acclaim. If that wasn’t enough of an achievement during a pandemic, they’ve since performed on The Late Late Show with James Corden, signed to Sub Pop Publishing, and have been nominated for a Choice Music Prize Irish song of the year for their song “Holy Show”. From the gentle opening of “Holy Show” to the intimacy of tracks like “Brothers”, this album is an anthem-loaded masterpiece.

Denise Chaila
Originally described as a mixtape by the Limerick-based rapper Denise Chaila, her powerful album “Go Bravely” has earned her the Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the year. Since emerging on the Irish music scene on the Rusangano Family’s album “Let The Dead Bury The Dead”, Denise has proven herself to be one of the most exciting and talented artists on the Irish hip-hop scene today.

Gemma Dunleavy
The Dublin songwriter’s debut EP ‘Up De Flats’ is a love letter to inner-city Dublin and her community in Sheriff Street. This stunning EP has earned Dunleavy a spot on the 2FM Rising list for 2021 alongside acts like For Those I Love and Bobbi Arlo and a Choice Music Prize Irish song of the year nomination for her single “Up De Flats”. From the pride of “Up De Flats” to the heartbreak of “Setting Son”, this is a moving and deeply personal debut.
