WOW Live at Whelan’s This Wednesday

WOW (which stands for Women On Wednesdays) returns to Whelan’s Upstairs this Wednesday 28th March at 8pm.

For it’s 6th edition, WOW features some incredible talent with music from HAWK (listen to new single Keeps Me Out), Montauk Hotel (listen to new single Hands), Neev Kennedy and comedy from Emma Doran.

Tickets are €10 or €6 for students and can be purchased on or on the door.

A little bit about WOW, how it started and where your money goes…

WOW is an initiative that launched in July 2016, motivated by sheer frustration at the under representation of female acts at so many of Ireland’s major music events. Recognising the opportunity to promote, support and celebrate the wealth of talented women out there, WOW’s mission is to provide an entertaining, belter of a night for audiences, while raising much needed funds for Aidlink Ireland. In the spirit of female solidarity – Global North and Global South – all proceeds raised from WOW ticket sales will support Aidlink’s girls’ education projects in Kenya, tackling female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage and gender inequality.

Find out more about Aidlink here.

Aidlink’s primary school programme in Kenya is a gendered intervention which aims to make school a happier, healthier and safer place for all children, but most especially for girls. Working with our local partner The Girl Child Network, we work to achieve “girl-friendly” primary schools, which entails implementing better sanitation facilities, distributing sanitary pads, establishing and training child rights clubs and women’s groups, and providing gender sensitive training to parents and staff.

Keep up to date with WOW on Facebook and head down to Whelan’s this Wednesday for a great cause!
